This is a pilot project whose objective is to provide people with overhauled, donated computers. The project is for unemployed or underemployed people who do not have use of a computer. 

Elevation to Employment

For individuals facing multiple barriers and for those affected by Mill Closures, to help you move forward in your employment.

Elevation to Employment is a program to help people with multiple barriers to gain the skills they need to find employment or to improve precarious employment. 

The program has continuous intake for participants living in the Peace River Regional District of BC. There is a Soft Skills Training component which is provided in a group format; that group will move community to community depending on need. Participants who are ready for that component can attend sessions in other communities via Video conference.

Do you need more skills to find or keep employment?

And are you…

• A citizen, permanent resident, or protected person

• Not a full-time student

• Unemployed or precariously employed

• Committed to finding a new path to sustainable employment


Opportunity for Participants

Each participant will receive:

• Employment coaching and career assessments to help them set a goal and build an Action Plan

• Soft skills training

• Job search assistance

Based on their plan, they could also receive:

• Essential skills training

• Short term training

• Occupational skills training

• On-the-job training / work experience

• Wage subsidy

Opportunity for Employers

With approval an employer could get:

• A work experience participant with skills to match the employer’s needs

• Wage subsidy for on-the-job training of a new employee

• An opportunity to train and work with a possible new employee to get a good feel for their skills and abilities. 

Participant Eligibility

To participate in the program, you must be:

• A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

• Living in BC

• Not a full-time student in either high school or post-secondary training

• Not actively participating in another labour market program

• Unemployed or precariously employed

Precariously employed means:

• Irregular hours of work such as casual or on-call work

• Unreliable compensation such as piece-work or commission

• Earnings that cannot support an individual or their family

• Working where your job may be replaced by technology or automation in the near future

• Working in an occupation that is clearly below your skill level or qualifications and where there is no likelihood of advancement

• Having ‘just cause’ to leave your employment


This program is also available for those impacted by mill closures.

Peace Region PC's

By re-homing PCs, we can help people develop computer skills, access the online job market, and become employed.

  • Those receiving a computer must have access to the internet or be willing to get it.
  • Those receiving a computer are asked to give back to the community by choosing an organization to donate volunteer time. 

Computer skills are very important both in finding work and in doing most jobs. Having reliable access to a computer will help build and maintain people's computer skills. The computers received from this program will come with some training in its use and information materials for later reference. 

An added benefit of this program is that it reduces electronic waste.
